dead mouse question!

So, we have 2 cats, and they are good mousers.  The last 2 days I've found dead mice in the morning, both in the area where my crawling 9-month-old "free ranges".  (Happily I have found the mice, not him!)  We have a 4 year old, too.

Yesterday the dead mouse was on the hardwood floor, so I disposed of it and cleaned the floor.  (My cats don't mangle them much lately, which is good.)  Today, though, 'twas on the carpet.  I wasn't sure whether I needed to worry about what yucky germs it may have left behind.  It's a wool carpet.  I just spritzed it with some vinegar water and wiped with a cloth diaper, but I'm wondering if you mamas have any better ideas?

Again, it wasn't gross or gooey or anything, and left no visible debris.  But do you think I should be concerned about letting the babe crawl there?  The cats certainly chased the mouse all over the house anyway...

Thanks for any thoughts or advice!  Hopefully there will be no yucky mangled ones in the future, though I am glad the cats are getting the critters!

BTDT.  It's yucky, but I don't know how much more you can do.  I always used a little Bac Out in a spray bottle.  I just try to think of all the conditions that children have lived in throughout history and survived just fine -- that makes me feel a little better.  rolleyes.gif

I don't know how this would work on wool carpet, but when something nasty gets on our carpet I will just set my steam mop on top of it and let it steam a bit, I figure the heat will help kill the germs.

Yup - Bac-Out, vacuum (not necessarily in that order), and I'd be good to go.

Especially since they were running around with the cat after them anyway. (and maybe at other times, too, since they're in the house. I assume from your post that the cat(s) aren't bringing in the mice from the basement or outdoors?)

Oh yeah, a vacuum---I always need to do that anyway!

Thanks guys.  I'll use bacout and the vacuum.  The cats are (mostly) indoor, and the mice, alas, are indoor too.  We're glad for the cats!
