why is life as a parent private?

It is called Life as a Parent and it is under Parenting. I think it's been there for years. I had no trouble accessing it just now though so I wonder what the problem is for OP.?

It was listed as private (in the box where it detail the most recent post) like the abuse forum is or talk amongst yourselves when you aren't logged in. i was logged in and it said "private" so i couldn't access it. later on that day it was back to normal.

Um, yes we do. LOL! We changed things awhile back and I totally forgot (and didn't even check). Deepest apologies.  But not an actual forum. Just a category title. 

So it's open now? Perhaps something occurred when some settings were being worked on and it was reverted back.

Sometimes it shows up as Private for me, even when I'm logged in (it says "Private" in the second column...the one that says "would you be upset, posted by..." on the screen-grab posted by limette above). If I click on the subforums, it lets me view them like normal.

It seems pretty random as to when this occurs, but I have noticed it maybe 25% of the time when I come to MDC.

But is it actually private in that you cannot access or post?

I can access it. I don't think I've ever posted there, but it seems like I'd be able to just fine. It just lists it as Private (for me...not sure if this is the same problem the OP is having).

Same thing happens to me. I don't know if I am able to post in it though, because I have never tried. It definitely is listed ass private quite often though.

What I think happens is it posts the last accessed thread. Since there is a private single mom forum in single parents, if that was posted last by someone, it shows up. Just get into your threads like usual, there should be no problem

It's working fine at the moment. I never tried to access it when it said private. I never noticed it do that before the changeover.
