6 month old shaking and clenching hands - i'm freaking out

Last Saturday, ds2 got his DTaP and Rotavirus.  He developed a horrible case of eczema or bumps on his thigh around the injection site, and also he still has a hard area there. We're going to the Ped today.  But what scares me is that he's started clenching his hands and shaking often during the day, never when he's sleeping.  I remember ds1 doing that on and off until he turned 2.5 y...but never this many times during the day and I never associated it with a vacc.  I've been reading things online, and I'm so freaked out that I may have taken my perfect little son and injected him with something that caused him to have seizures or something.  I'm trying to think straight here, what I need to ask the ped to do in case he blows it off.  Should I ask for EEG and a referral to a specialist? Can it possibly be normal?  Can it be diabetic in nature or anything else that I need to get evaluated?

We're back from the Dr's.  He doesn't think that it's anything ... just ds2 doing that voluntarily.  I'm obviously going to keep an eye on it, as it's supposed to go away...

ahhh, I have to go see how many gray hairs I have on my head now.

I don't mean to sound rude, but what did you expect the doctor to say? Vaccines are the holy grail of medical science. You are right to keep an eye on things and even if the shaking stops and the eczema/bumps clear up, I would be looking elsewhere for help. Personally, I would consult a classical homeopath to assist a baby heal from the vaccines. Homeopathy seems to work very well in clearing vaccinosis.

If ds2 was having actual seizures, I would expect the Dr. to say he is, whether or not he thinks it's vaccine related.  That's what worried me most ... was whether my son was having seizures ... more important than why.  I am not planning on more vaccines until after he's a year old...and then we'll revisit.

In defense of this Dr, he does not think it's a good idea to give a  vacc if the child is even remotely (or possibly) sick.  He has never once said anything to me about delaying vaccinations or encouraging me to give them.

When we thought our son was having seizures both our ped and the neurologist we were referred to both told me that doctors cannot determine seizures unless they actually see the kid having one while being observed in an EKG or cat scan. And even then they can't be totally sure. So your ped can't know really. Please continue to observe your son.

Our ped took us seriously enough that she admitted us immediately into the hospital based only on my description...not that I recommend that. It was awful.

Did your son end up with a diagnosis?  I am one of those overly anxious Moms, so I'm also concerned with forcing needless procedures on ds just to calm my own fear of the moment.  I do think if he continues doing this so often, then we'll have to get an EEG.

I can only imagine how scary that is for you! Definitely watch him closely! I hope he feels better and is back to normal soon.

With us it turned out that his seizures were related to his chronic constipation, and once the latter was addressed the former stopped happening. By the time he ended up in the hospital he hadn't pooped in over two weeks and only sporadically for the previous few months. Poor kid was probably dealing with a toxic overload.

How did they figure it out?  You know, we just started solids very recently with ds2, and he went for 6 days without pooping, and then cried when he pooped 3 times in one day.  Before solids, the most he'd gone without pooping was 2 or 3 days, but usually went every day.  Did your ds have an EEG that was normal?  Were his symptoms similar to my son's?  clenching and shaking?

That was the other advice our ped told us, to give ds some prunes, pears, and peaches, no bananas or apples for now.

Video tape them.  My friend went through this.  Dr. said "I dunno" so she made a video of the seizures.  She took it to her ped who agreed that it wasn't "normal", went to the nuro and EEG and all that.  He was having seizures and without the video, who knows how long till someone believed her.
