VERY dry scalp on infant

My daughter (2.5 months old) has a very dry, flaky scalp. I wash her hair once a week with Burt's Bees baby shampoo. A few weeks ago she had a terrible heat rash all over her face, head and neck, which I resolved by moisturizing her skin and keeping a barrier between her face and my arm while nursing/napping. I'm wondering if she's now shedding the dead skin from the rash? She has lots of hair, so her scalp didn't receive the same care as her face. Help!!!

Is the dry, flaky scalp a new thing?

I use a bit of coconut oil on my girl's dry spots (she inherited her mother's problem skin, poor girl).

I think it's kind of "dormant" until I upset it by doing something like brushing her hair. We had just gotten out of the bath when I started this thread. I had washed C's hair and rinsed it in the tub. It looked fine. Then (for the first time ever) I decided to try rinsing her hair under the shower head, figuring I'd have a better chance of getting all of the shampoo out that way. WELL - it was like I had used a pressure washer! Her scalp just peeled off like crazy, totally freaked me out.

I tried rubbing coconut oil on it, and it made her head smell terrible. I think it brought out the dead-skin aroma nut.gif

Ewww! What about a coconut oil massage a couple of hours before her weekly hair wash? Or olive oil? When Cecilia had cradle cap, I'd do an olive oil massage, wait an hour, do the gentle hair brushing in circles bit to loosen the flakes, and then wash with water.
