Exzema - reacting to milk and eggs - allergies? intolerance?

Hi mama's, I was hoping for some advice from people with more experience with allergies than me.

In June, at 2 years 4 months, DD developed exzema, which quickly got quite bad. We eliminated eggs, as her father is alergic, and gets exzema from eggs. For a week or so her skin improved, then it got much worse, before I realized I had replaced eggs with milk and butter (baking. mostly).

So we removed dairy, except yoghurt (because she loves yoghurt, and we decided to only removed that if absolutely necessary). It took a few weeks, but her exzema miraculously cleared up. We had also found a cream at the local organic shop which had seemed to relieve the itching, and help in the meantime.

I also stay off the foods, as she breastfeeds a lot. In the first few months we had several slip-ups, one when she had it, twice when I did, and her reaction was quick, when I had something early afternoon, she had reacted by bed-time. When she had something mid-day, there was no reaction until early the next morning.

Over summer the exzema has flared up a little bit, usually when she's got to hot at night, but a couple of days with this cream (which among other things has colloidal silver in it) it is usually good again. Her skin does get dry, but the Weleda baby lotion works well for maintenance. Recently we decided to try sheep's cheese (hard), because she really misses cheese. There was what we think was a smaller reaction (much smaller than milk), but it may have been the heat again, it is hard to say.

I asked the Well Baby nurse if we should have it tested by the doctor, or get referred to an allergist, she asked what-for, genuinely surprised, and adviced we just keep her off the foods (she's very supportive in every way, she didn't question the allergies, just told me about support organizations and magazines, and good replacement foods).

Any thoughts about this? Does it sound like allergies or intolerance? Is it likely she might be able to cope with lactose-free stuff? Or with goats' milk? Should we have her tested? Would it be likely to work? Would it make a difference?

Is her eczema clear now? Have you trialled eggs, or were the "slip up" reactions from dairy?

If it were me, I probably wouldn't bother with testing unless there are other potential symptoms.

There is lactose in breastmilk, so the problem is most likely a protein in the dairy. Some people can tolerate milk from other animals, some can't.
