DS2 bites and head butts - this is new for me, help!

Okay, so I need some advice from those who have BTDT. DS2 is turning one this month, and his behavior is getting worse. He's been a biter and head butter since he was old enough to move around. He's one of those kids who arches his back and slams his head into your face when he gets upset, or bites you to get your attention if you don't give it fast enough. He's bit his older brother a couple times (maybe DS1 deserved it ;), but biting, ugh!

Now DS2 is also slamming his head into the floor when he gets upset. Like if I put him down when he wants up, he'll just slam his forehead into the ground, then cry because it hurts. Ack! And he just now bit my arm because I wasn't paying enough attention!

What is up with this? Is there anything I can do about it?

I forgot to mention that otherwise he is really easygoing and sweet. He's friendly, smiley, relaxed, and mostly just a really happy-go-lucky guy. It's just when you piss him off that he resorts to freaking out.

My older son was a biter and at about the same age.  Our ped at the time said it was a phase (which was true--he's 15 years old now and doesn't bite me anymore eyesroll.gif) and that biters typically do it to one target person...who is usually the one they are closest to.  This somehow made me feel better.  I am sorry that I don't remember how long it took him to quit.  DS 2 (11 m.o.) is already a biter.  He tries to bite his dad, too, but dad has quicker reflexes with it and is around him less.  In any case, I know that a) it sure hurts, and b) it's really frustrating.  People will probably advise you to say "No bite" or something similar and offer an alternative.  This may or may not make any difference, but sometimes it's nice to have a strategy.  I was also given really bad advice, which was to bite back...can you imagine?  Best of luck with it!
