Nipple and breast pain

Just yesterday, I started getting a sharp pain in my nipple that shoots into my breast, and then armpit (how far it goes depends on how much contact my nipple receives....so just a pain in the nipple when merely touched, but the pain shoots during nursing).  I don't feel any clogs, I've had mastitis before and it doesn't feel like that (although it's been 3 yrs).  I am 5-9 DPO...but I've never had pain as a symptom of PMS.

Any ideas on what this could be causing such a pain?  Maybe diminishing supply??  My son is 3yrs 3mo old.

Thanks!

Are you positive it is not mastitis?  That's really what it sounds like.

Well, of all the classic symptoms:

  • Breast tenderness or warmth to the touch
  • General malaise or feeling ill
  • Swelling of the breast
  • Pain or a burning sensation continuously or while breast-feeding
  • Skin redness, often in a wedge-shaped pattern
  • Fever of 101 F (38.3 C) or greater

I only have the pain while breastfeeding, but none of the other signs.   My breasts are slightly swollen, but it's both of them....and that is most likely PMS (or maybe a baby praying.gif )
