hydrotherapy at it's best

hydrotherapy is a very naturopathic principle that can be applied in a variety of ways.  I have used it on infants, adults and some elderly folks over the years with only positive results.  I've seen it work for fevers, flus, bronchitis, pneumonia, pertussis....the list goes on.  It's cheap, it's easy and it's super effective.  You can do full body hydrotherapy, you can do it simply with your feet-how you do it is kind of dictated by what you're trying to accomplish.  Yesterday I took it up a notch.

I committed to doing a penguin plunge to raise money for the special olympics.  Yesterday, with my team I went to a lake where they cut a hole in the very thick ice, and scantily clad, I plunged.  There were firefighters/EMT's in attendance so we were very safe.  We jumped, went under and stayed in for only about 90 seconds.  I came up and attempted to yell, but had no ability to speak-the cold water really knocks the wind out of you!

I've been clearing out sinus congestion for a few weeks now.  I felt fine, but the congestion just wouldn't end.  To be fair, I wasn't doing much about it because I don't tend to do anything for myself-I just kind of assume I'll be fine.  But the lingering congestion was super annoying and just wouldn't end.

Yesterday, it did.  Magically.  I plunged, froze myself and then went into a heated tent and took a hot shower.  I was wondering if it would work (I told my team it's mostly why I was doing it!)  And it did.  I woke this morning congestion free for the first time in almost two months.  My voice is normal again (it was never painful, I just sounded like I had a cold.)

I love hydrotherapy!

We have been using hydrotherapy for over a year now.  Any time we start to feel sick (achy neck, cloudy head, etc) we do a wet sock treatment for 3 nights in a row.  We soak our feet in water at 120*F and then place cold, wet socks on our feet.  Cover them with a pair of wool socks and go directly to bed for the night.  It works like a charm almost every time.

I'll have to try hydrotherapy next time we get sick, I've wanted to try it for a long time but I keep forgetting about it.
