How old were you when you bought your first home? - Page 2

I was 25, my husband was 39. The average around here seems to be a bit over 30.

DH was 19 and I was 20. That was eight years ago...hard to believe!

dh bought a house at 23, before we met. Then we bought a house together when I was 25 (a foreclosure).

33 & 34. We live in a very expensive city, but in reality it was emotional and health issues that held us back from buying years earlier.

DP & I were both 25.  We had been married going on 4 years, had a 2 year old and were 8 months pg.

Most of the people around here seem to not buy until they are married or in a fairly long term relationship.  Late 20s seems fairly common, but some people are much older with no plans to buy.

We bought our first house when I was 24, and DH was 25 after our first DD was born.  We do live in a low COL area but what helped us tremendously was getting into a first time homebuyer program.  I can't remember exact numbers but it seemed like total closing costs were around 6k.  So if you can, research different programs and options, you may not need as much as you think you need to get into a home of your own.

I had my first baby @ 36. Bought my first home @ 38 (solo), sold it 3 yrs later (made $$) and bought my 2nd home (solo) @ 43. I did a lot of traveling&school in my 20's and started working in a career type job in my late 20's/30's. Then had kids, bought home, etc.

Married at 25. First baby at 28.  House at 30.

And dh is 5 years older than I am.

And we were among the first of our peers to be married.  I seem to know a lot of people who wait till they are nearly 40 before having children.

We were 26 and 27 when we bought our first home.  It was a small townhouse, so just a starter home.  It was actually an impulse purchase.  We went to watch a new movie, but arrived an hour early.  Saw some banners for new homes nearby and said "Why don't we go see some show homes?"  Saw a couple units and decided right then.  Then we watched our movie, and signed the papers next day. :D I probably wouldn't recommend that method to other people, but we were young and laid back then.

We sold it and bought a house in the suburb 3 years later, already had one baby then.   We were relatively early among our peers.  Most don't buy homes until their mid-30s.  Homes here are very expensive (Greater Vancouver) so people need more time to save up.

According to this article "First-time buyers for the two years of the study had an average age of 34, compared to 46 for those trading up."  You guys have plenty of time to catch up. http://www.worldpropertychannel.com/us-markets/residential-real-estate-1/real-estate-news-first-time-home-buyers-national-association-of-home-builders-nahb-new-home-construction-home-buyer-tax-credit-3219.php

I was 25. DH was..... 41? I'm not sure. lol.

I was 28, DH had JUST turned 30 the day after we signed (which was his goal, buy a house by the time he hits 30).

We're married and had been together 10 years at that point, no kids. It took us a while to get on our feet jobwise and to pay off debt from the leaner years. It would have taken even longer if we hadn't found such a great deal. We plan on staying here "forever".

24 and 26.

we were 23... just married, no kids.

22 and dh was 25.  That was 8 years ago and we'll be moving in the next 1-2 years.

36 and no house yet.  Maybe by the time I'm in my early forties.

We're in the process of buying our first house right now :)

We're both 26 and we have one son, been married for 6 1/2 years.

I'm surprised that so many people bought in their early 20s. I wasn't expecting it for some unknown reason.

I was 23, almost 24, and dh was 27. We've lived here for almost 8 years now.

I was 23 and he was 25.  The experience taught me that I have zero desire to own a house again anytime soon.

I can understand that.  I feel the same way sometimes!  Beyond that, experience taught me that what I thought I wanted in a home wasn't really what was functionally best for us.  We've been here 7 years and are trying to figure out what we *do* want... but are looking for houses now.
