Gaining too fast? (solid food vs EBF query)

Hello!

E is just seven months old and has been trying out foods for about a month. We don't do purees, we mash food and spoon feed food that is chunkier than any jarred baby food would ever be (in fact, probably chunkier than some of those toddler foods).  She LOVES food, she would eat and eat and eat if we let her.  So far, she eats

Sweet Potatoes

Broccoli
Kalamata Olives
Barley
Oatmeal
Avocado
Banana
Pears
Greek Yogurt
Mango
Carrots
Green Beans
Kiwi
Lentils
Red Peppers
Zucchini

so we think she's eating healthy foods... she absolutely loves whole fat plain greek yogurt and would love to have it at every meal. We keep her at twice a day...

Tonight, out of curiosity we weighed her and she's gained 2.5 lbs in the last month. Is that too fast?  She was born at the 50th percentile, then by three months dropped down to 10th-ish and stayed there until just now. She's at the 29th percentile now...

We had thought that she was too small when she was EBF, and now that she's eating food we're wondering if she's grown too fast... We're a bundle of worries, apparently... Is she just balancing out? Should we cut back the food and stick with more breast milk?

She seems happy and is moving toward crawling. She sleeps eight hours most nights and then wakes up and comes into our bed to nurse/snooze for three more hours...

This is normal, right?

I think that must be the chart I'm using, because that seems about where she is. It's not so much the percentiles that worry me as Mom is only 5"1, but it's the jump from 10th to 29th percentile that seems extreme.

Wow, I think you're doing great. I wish my dd would eat all of those things. She really doesn't eat at thing at 9 months. Anyway, she used to be at the 10th percentile and now she's at the 24th... nothin' but breastmilk! Babes have their ups and downs. It looks like yours is off to a healthy start.

Thanks Buzzer... it's good to hear that other babies jump around as well.. She's so noticeably heavier these days and we were so worried that we were feeding her too much. She just loves the food so much and enjoys eating that we worried that it was too much!

babies grow in fits and starts - it's the long term picture that's important. As long as she is nursing before solids, you're respecting her wishes for food, and they are adding to rather than replacing breastmilk, then I wouldn't worry.

Sounds perfectly normal to me. As long as your baby is meeting major developmental milestones, I wouldn't worry about charts too much anyway. As long as you are focusing on breastmilk first and supplementing with mostly veggies, I think it's virtually impossible to overfeed at 7 months. Just make sure you're watching her hunger cues, not trying to finish a certain amount of food. Personally, if anything I would cut back on yogurt. There's nothing wrong with it, but your own milk is so much better! :) It sounds like you're doing a GREAT JOB.
