how do you encourage play and development?

DD is 8 mths now. She is moving all over the place but we have a very small space. She doesn't get to explore a whole lot because of chords, shelves, etc.

What do you do?

In your case, I would babyproof like mad, so that she had free run of the place. Or not-- it really depends on the baby's personality. Some don't really get into stuff, others do. But if yours is one of the ones who does get into everything, I would really work on baby proofing so that she can explore more! And I would ask for suggestions if you're stuck on what to do with some of it, like if you need tips on what to do with cords, for example. thumb.gif

Our house is small too.

What I do is get out. I take DS to places where he can play to give him some variety:

friends' places, kids cafe, playgrounds, our baby group, or other kid-friendly areas I know of (for example I just discovered a local bookstore that has a wonderful kids' corner, he loved it!).
