Radiation Exposure from Japan Nuclear Sites

I like to be prepared!  And the US news isn't giving us any information on possible radiation exposure should the Japan nuclear sites have a meltdown.  I have two under three and a baby on the way and want to protect them as much as possible.  We have a friend whose brother is a nuclear scientist and says we need to prepare for the possibility, but what does that entail?  I've heard Iodine but that pregnant women can't have it, and what doses for others?  Also, Kelp?  Anybody know what to do should this become an issue?

I'd be curious to know what your friend's brother means too, especially if he's talking on an individual level. To me, possible fallout from Japan's nuclear reactors goes under the category of Things I Can't Do Anything About, So Quit Worrying. And I live on the Pacific rim.

Never mind!  I'm new and just saw other threads with this topic...oops!  Will look more thoroughly next time!
