Boys Club Ideas?

Thread Starter

My friend and I organize a Boys Club for our homeschool group.

The girls had a group and the boys felt a bit left out.

We've been doing this for nearly a year. Sometimes we invite the girls so they can have fun with us too.

Here's a few things we've done.

1. Legos

2. Skate Park

3. Swimming

4. Water Park

5. Christmas Party

6. Play at a gym

7. Bowling

8. Play board games

We have a few more ideas but I'm wondering if anyone can think of any fun ideas for a group of Elementary age boys--we usually have about 12.

Ice Skating

Scavenger Hunt

Book Discussion

Archery

Fishing

Hike in Forest Preserve

Something with cars?  Learn how to check/change oil?

Some sort of woodworking project (my kids have made really simple tool boxes - have wood precut)

Science type stuff like make your own slime, etc.. this book has great ideas - http://www.amazon.com/Ultimate-Book-Kid-Concoctions-Wacky/dp/0966108809/ref=sr_1_20?ie=UTF8&qid=1300165043&sr=8-20 )

Our homeschool group has a boys sciece book club.  They read a book about a scienist during the month and then meet to talk about it and do experiements or deminstrations about that scientist.  Each month a different boy is in charge of leading the discussion.

Grossology

Juggling (with pieces of silks to get started)

Messy party (literally--shaving cream and all kinds of stuff that makes a mess--outside, when it's warm)

"hug a tree" (try to identify a tree with your hands only)

painting with water on concrete/asphalt

chalkboard murals on the ground

We've got a mother doing a manners/etiquette class just for boys.  :)

Neat ideas! Our clubs are co-ed; we're doing 4H, Adventure Club (k=hiking/camping/scout-type stuff), and a community service project.

These are really good ideas though!

I'd just want to add camping to all that fun stuff.  Not overnight, but even day camping during the day in someone's front or backyard?  Depending on the kids, they may get a kick out of it.  :)

It's also garden/planting time.  Start some seeds about now, and have someplace to plant later on when the frost date has passed.

Thanks so much! When you said camping, it reminded me of a Family Fun idea I read. They go to the campground just for the day! That would be so fun to roast marshmallows and have tons of room to round around! I may have to see about planning that for May!

Have you got a copy of the Dangerous book for boys - lots of activities in there to work at. There are other similar books like 101 things to do in a shed, Handy Dad, Geek Dad etc that can give you some good ideas.   Some life skills would be good too (depending on what your age range and space options are like). Having boys cook, learn to sew or knit, do basic bike repairs, learn about cars, woodworking, basic electrical work etc.

Good luck!

Karen
