Diaper pail question

Thread Starter

We're expecting our first next month. We're planning to try out both cloth diapering and disposables (my DH wants to do disposables; I want to do cloth). What kind of diaper pail do we need? Will a plastic bucket with a sealable lid do the trick? What do you use?

We have two 13-gallon trash pails, the kind with lids that open from steps at the bottom, in Cecilia's room. We put a diaper pail liner in one and a regular trash bag in the other, so we can have both a cloth diaper pail and a regular trash bin.

We have a 13 gallon garbage pail with a wet bag for our cloth diapers.  And a smaller garbage pail for our disposables and wipes w/ a regular garbage bag too.  However, the pail with the disposables tends to smell really bad, so I've started taking the poopy ones out to the bin in the garage.  If you are doing cloth, just a regular pail will work with a wet bag.  They smell waaaay less than disposables.

I'm a big fan of the Wahmmies wet bags - we have 2, so that one can be in the wash while the other is in use.  They're elastic around the top and have a piece of fabric in them that I put tea tree oil on to mask the stinkies.  They fit great in a 13 gal step-on kitchen trash can.     Have you talked to your husband about maybe velcro AIO diapers?  Check out the BumGenius AIO's- they're on clearance for $10 ea and since there's no insert and no snaps they work really just like sposies, just with laundry tabs...

Personally, I hate my pail liner with elastic, because I find it to be a huuuuuuge PITA when it comes to getting the diapers out into the washer. I can't avoid touching them. greensad.gif On the other hand, I love my liner with the drawstring, as I can tighten it to fit the trash can but open it completely to get the diapers into the washer.

I just use a lidless garbage can (not sure of the exact size, but it fits about 2 dozen dirty prefolds). It is in a cabinet on one of those things that slides out. I also use cloth wipes so I can just throw them in with the diapers instead of needing a separate garbage can.

I don't even use a liner. I had one but it fell apart in the wash. I just rinse the garbage can out once a week.
