Ways to find cheap airfare?

I normally use orbitz or travelocity, and when I find the cheapest on one of those sites I look at the carrier web site to see if they are offering the flight cheaper directly from them (usually not). I would love to hear about other great cheap airfare sites. I am looking for a flight from the U.S. to Australia. My work is paying for my flight, but I still need the cheapest because DS will be joining me, and I have to pay for his ticket. A child fare would be wonderful, but those are hard to come by nowadays.
