Switching to cloth with a toddler and baby on the way

Thread Starter

My son just turned 2, and I'm 14 weeks pregnant with #2. I'm definitely going to cloth diaper with the new baby, but I'd really like to switch to cloth with my son until he potty trains (not at all sure when that will be- he's showing some readiness signs, but not others). I really like the hybrid diapers I've seen, and I like the idea of one-size, so I don't have to keep buying more.

My sister is using gdiapers with her baby, and she seems to like them so far. She has the newborn/small package, which my niece will be out of by the time my baby is born, so I can have them if I want.

I'm not sure what I should be looking for, or how to manage 2 in cloth diapers. Anyone else been there, done that and have any advice for me?

Thanks smile.gif

When I found out that I was pregnant with my son, I also decided to switch my daughter to cloth.  I bought a bunch of bumgenius one-size pockets which my daughter has been using for about 6 months now.  I got a newborn rental kit to use with my son (the rental is for 2 months and we're 1 month in now).  He's just starting to be able to fit into the one-size diapers on the smallest size.  My daughter is also starting to get interested in the potty so I didn't buy enough diapers for 2 kids in cloth . . . I just need to do diaper laundry more frequently for now.

We did the same thing... started CDing DS (17 months) shortly after we found out we're having baby #2 (due any moment :)).

We use flats with the thirsties duo wraps. They will share flats and have different covers at first. Not the "easiest" way to do things for sure.

I have a friend that uses BumGenius all in ones for both of her kids (2.5 and 5 months). At the very beginning she did pre folds and covers for the NB, but by a few weeks they were both in exactly the same diapers. She just had to remember which diaper she snapped to which setting, so she wasn't scrambling to unsnap diapers with her wiggly 2 year old. That would totally be the way I'd go if we had a washer and dryer.

I haven't met anyone IRL that gdiapers have worked for. The 2 people I know that used them had trouble getting them to fit their LOs.
