DS would have been OK at 2, because he was used to sleeping on his own, and a heavy sleeper. If he had woken at night, he would not have been too happy without DH or myself, but h could have rolled with the punches. Actually he did spend 2-3 nights away from us when my home birth with DD turned into emergency c-section, and he enjoyed it.
Â
DD at 2, no way! She was used to having at least DH or myself, and has always slept with either us or DS, and is a light sleeper. So it would have been a traumatic disaster. Now she is 4.5 and it would probably be ok.Â

I also think it depends on if you have done it before. I mean if the kids are put to bed by grandparents on occasion, have slept over at grandparents house a few times, then there is no huge adjustment to suddenly camping with them one day. But if your DD has been with you every night, is still BF, then I don't really see the point. It would just make your DD upset to wake up one night and suddenly you were not there. It doesn't make sense to me.
Â
If I try to find the positive, maybe your mom is indirectly trying to give you a night with your DH? But honestly, if you and your DD are not ready, it won't be a fun night with you worrying about how your DD is. I'd tell your mom you'll revisit the idea in another year.Â
