Just want to throw that out there for anyone considering a long-term, non-hormonal, highly effective method of birth control. I know some women have bad side effects from copper IUDs, and it seems like you don't know until you try it how it'll treat your body. But I've had a great experience with mine.
I think I've tried practically every method of birth control out there. Hormonal birth control decimates my libido. The Depo Provera practically gave me a nervous breakdown. Withdrawal gave me a darling baby boy. The cervical cap was just weird and has a crazy high failure rate. Condoms feel bad. Abstinence is no fun. Charting was the next step, but I was worried about keeping up with it. Â
I've got my IUD a little more than a year ago. Insertion hurt a little bit, but not badly. My periods got quite heavy for about four months, then eased off again. My cramps actually went away, which was pretty cool. And I love that I don't have to think about it, my partner doesn't have to pull out, and the failure rate is about as low as you can get for non-permanent methods. Over ten years, it's incredibly cost effective. Â
Anyway, just thought I'd throw that out there.
