Here's what I found out and posted about it last year. Â If you want to get more reviews, GVS was more than willing to help me get in touch with families that use it when I asked. Â You can send them an email using the contact info from their website (that's what I did). Â You'd be able to ask some specific questions as it relates to your family and maybe get a better idea.
I bought it last fall, but you can't really get the book list until you order the curriculum. When I received their curriculum book I wrote the prices in it of how much the each book cost on amazon. While reviewing the books on amazon it became apparent that the books were all for a level much below where my daughter needed to be (a lot of picture books for a 5th grader) but I tried to make it work(mostly because I felt I couldn't return their curriculum book since I had written in it...I was really kicking myself for that.) The real cost of the curriculum was the purchase price of those books, they said many of them were available in libraries, but they weren't in my local library. After a month I determined that my "supplementing" to bring it up to her level was in fact the meat of our homeschooling and we eventually weren't using their materials at all.  There were two books that we ended up using which led to a good look at labor organization and workers rights for which fifth grade seems to be a good match.
Â
I think I would probably like the curriculum if I had the right level, but their grade 5 was about equivilent to what we did in grade 3.Â
Their recommendation is why I ended up using Math-U-See this year which we have really liked, although there also I spent a good amount of money on "manipulatives" that have never left the box, but once again we used alot of manipulatives in early elementary level school work, she just didn't need them anymore.
Â
I think I would like them if I had the right level match, just don't write in it till you have reviewed everything and are sure you are going to keep it.
