DS 6mo waking trying to flip at night

Hi All - I'm looking for a little advice or maybe just good mom support. My DS is 6.5 months old in in the last 6 nights or so he wakes up every 10-1hr trying to flip over, or spin, or do some other crazy acrobatics.

He's in a pack n play until first nursing (on good nights around 3:00 a.m. then with us.  We've tried bringing him into bed earlier thinking it would calm him, but then he just bust some break dancing type moves in our bed and no one sleeps.  He generaly wakes with fussy complaining and half hearted crying.  We have also tried just to leave him to see if he can work it out, but the crying always escalates.  So.  We have a sleep sack, but not sure that helps.  I've tried a few other things but just too sleepy to type them all.  "this too shall pass" just doesn't seem to be cuttin it right now.  Any of your ideas would be much appreciated.  redface.gif that's every 10 minutes above, can't quite figure out editing right now running on fumes.  Thanks

DS has been doing this for an hour or two several nights for the past week.  I know it stinks!  Maybe this blog post will help you feel better?  It seems as if this happens for a little bit when they are going through a physical milestone.

Thanks for this, it did help a little.  Hasn't gotten better yet, but I have hope. he has ended up on his tummy a couple of times, not entirely happy about that, but I think he will soon get used to it.

Maybe he doesn't like sleeping on his back.  My ds (almost 6 months) has been doing the same thing lately, and it turned out that he wanted to be prone, rather than on his back.  I know it's not supposed to be as safe with respect to SIDS statistics.  So after he's on his stomach for a few minutes, I gently move one of his legs out from under him and prop him on his side.  He seems to sleep better that way; my midwife said that side sleeping was okay....

You're right.  I think he wants to be on his tummy and that's part of why he is miving around so much.  We've been putting him down on his side, which he seems to prefer to his back.  I ok with him sleeping on his tummy since he's strong and can role easily both ways.  But even once he is prone, he still wakes often.  Just know I witnessed something very similar to downward dog!  Maybe his little body is preparing to crawl.  Thanks Dovey. Happy sleeping to you!
