A blatant brag, or, anecdotal evidence:

Always unschooled  (except for K)  dd, age 16 has just been accepted into Bard College at Simon's Rock on a merit scholarship!!

She is the 7th unschooled child we know personally who has made it to college/university. (And we know zero who wanted to go but couldn't.) Not bad. :)

Woohoo! joy.gif:joy . I know a Wash U grad student in French who got his B.A. there and said it was amazing...

So, um, can I add my own brag? 'Cause I was kinda coming to post about Rain's acceptance to American University - she's also unschooled except for kindergarten, except for her junior year in Russia. She got a Dean's Scholarship. She also applied to 6 other places that we haven't heard from yet, so I don't know yet that she's going to American... but it was a good fit for her interests and it's nice to have an acceptance, at a cost we can afford. smile.gif

More anecdata, I know... but now you can up your total to 8.

Congratulations to two awesome young women (and their families)!

Congrats to Rain and SagMom's dd!

I'll add another bit of anecdata ...

My eldest (newly 17) has attended school part-time the past couple of years but was unschooled from the get-go until then and still does the vast majority of her learning in an unschooled fashion. She's just been accepted into Canada's "National Youth Orchestra" program for youth 16-28, an amazing intensive fully-funded summer program that trains the majority of our professional orchestral instrumentalists in this country. And she's been told by the head of strings performance at her first-choice university that she's virtually assured a spot in the program next year when she auditions and she should focus on trying to win one of the two big entrance scholarships. Not bad for a girl from the boonies who is lucky these days to get a violin lesson a month, and only gets orchestra and chamber music experience a couple of times a year. nod.gif

Congratulations to all these marvelous young women.  Not only acceptance but a scholarship as well!  That is indeed cause for celebration.  We've a long way to go before college but it really excites me to see these stories.   Best wishes to all of them in their scholastic and musical adventures!!!
