they go and do something really cool. teenagers, what an interesting bunch.:LOL
i have been having some weird ups and downs with my 12 yo dd. she is fine one minute, rational and sane and the next she is a raving lunatic and all reason flies out the window. similar to what was described in the recent posts about other 12 (or thereabout) yo daughters.
but tonight i saw her do something that melted my heart. we went out to eat with my dad who is almost 80. she hangs out with him a lot, he has kind of been the dad she never had. he lives in a retirement community so she meets a lot of older people and tries to help them out when she can without insulting their abilities.
so we are sitting in the restaurant and she is watching this older couple. he is disabled and his wife is just not as spry as i'm sure she used to be. ivey watched them and made sure that she got up to open the door for them when they left. we were seated close to the door so it wasn't a stretch but i was really proud of how aware she was of someone else's needs. another customer complemented her on the way out for her kindness.
i was so proud.
that reminds me of one time when i was sitting outside of a dairy queen and this knucklehead comes out of the drivethru, parks and dumps her ashtray on the ground. this group of teenage boys on skateboards saw her do it and after this woman drove off they went over, picked up all of the cigarette butts and threw them away. i was so bowled over it was all i could do not to cry. i wanted desperately to say something to them but i was all choked up.
even though they may seem like nut cases sometimes they will turn out just fine.
