My (not the baby's) doctor is a DO family practice doc who specializes in alternative and complementary medicine. He was stoked and supportive of my homebirth. I have been battling a nasty cold/sinus infection/yellow snot coming out of everywhere thing so I made an appointment today. I felt so comfortable knowing I could count on him to prescribe something that would work for a breastfeeding, cosleeping mother.
Â
We started to talk options and he asked me how much night nursing I was doing, and did I think I could handle something that would really knock me out (he knows I BF but did not know about the cosleeping yet). I told him I didn't think that would work as my son wakes every 90 minutes or so. And he said, "Have you tried just letting him scream?"

And from there he kept promoting it, referred to it as "a survival skill he'll have for the rest of his life." He's the last person on the list I would have expected a CIO lecture from. I felt ambushed! It was awful. I'm always waiting for this from the ped (hasn't happened yet, god love her), I never thought MY doctor would be telling me to CIO!
