Drowning in blankets and Quilts..help!

I noticed today that the pile of blankets and quilts is really quite an eyesore in what has become a 'junk room'.

I want the junk room room to be a pleasant room for sitting and reading etc, so I am desperate to move the pile.

We can't leave them at the end of beds due to the very hot humid weather we have for much of the year. We have no underbed space and actually I don't like the idea of keeping anythng under beds.

I used to keep them in storage bags in the basement but they all developed a mouldy odour due to the humidity here.

Just wondering where you all store your blankets and quilts during warm weather?  Should I invest in a big camphor wood storage chest?

I actually use them as bedskirts.  I stretch them over the boxspring and put the mattress on top.  They are always easy to grab that way and I don't have to try to carve out storage somewhere. 

If you are deeply attached to your bedskirt, you can simply put that on over the quilt and the quilt is invisible.

I was going to say, store between the mattress and boxspring.  But bedskirt is kinda the same idea! 

I would have thought those suck down storage bags would be moisture proof, and mildew proof if stuff was dry on the way in.  Cool to know. 

Personally, I purged a lot, store under the beds, and have a stack in the closet.

I tried folding them between, but they are too bulky and made things lumpy.  Spreading them out fixed that problem for us.   Sheets are folded between. :)

I once heard of sewing a pillow shape around them (basically the blanket is the stuffing) and using them as floor pillows.

I keep mine in a crunch hamper in the closet. You can stack a bunch in there and put cedar blocks in it if you want.

My problem was baby quilts... there are only so many a baby can use and my son got quite a few. So we sewed them all into one gigantic quilt for his bed. :D
