What could this pain be?

For the last 24 hours or so, when DS nurses on the left side I get this really strange pain. It's around the edge of the bottom of the areola, and it almost feels like he's biting me. However, when I tried to see what he was doing it looked normal, not like he was clamping down or anything. He's 11 months old and has 6 teeth, so maybe he's scraping the skin or something? It doesn't happen when he nurses on the right, and I don't see any redness or anything when he's done nursing, but the pain is pretty intense. It feels like a needle stabbing me. It doesn't continue throughout the feeding, it's at it's worst when the milk lets down, but it's not anywhere else in the breast except for this one spot. I have had plugged ducts before and it feels nothing like that, it's not deep at all. It really feels like the surface of the areola. Could he have traumatized the area with his teeth somehow? I have no idea what to think, any responses would be helpful.

Hi there. maybe a milk bleb, or I think it is called a milk blister also? Maybe just a different latch position? Sometimes babies change their latch when they get a little older.

The milk blister is when the skin covers the top of the duct opening, and it is very painful, like a needle.

Scraping teeth leave red marks (or they do for me in any event)--I agree it does sound like a blister. I'm prone to those and yes, they feel like you are being bitten sometimes. I treat mine by getting in a hot shower, and soaking the nipple in hot water for a few minutes (I use my hand to cup the water and just let the nipple sit in the hot water as it comes out the shower), and then hand expressing. Repeat until you see a little drop of milk come out of the sore spot. Some of the stuff I've read online says that you can see a small white dot with a milk blister, but I could never see it.

I guess that's what it was, because it went away. I never did see anything, and I examined the area pretty well. Now I notice a tiny scab, like the size of a pin hole, so I guess that's what happened. I hope that doesn't happen again, it hurt!
