Man oh man, I'm a blubbering mess over here. My very best wishes to Tear and her little fighter girl! xx

Hi again! I don't have tons to update since I'm not there (it's driving me crazy, and I'm bugging the snot out of my parents, who ARE there, because I don't want to bug the snot out of my sister
). According to my dad (admittedly not the most clued in guy in the world), breastfeeding is getting a bit easier and they're both doing well. Mom's blood pressure is still a bit high, but apparently it's normal for it to take a while to come back down after pre-e. So she's still on a bit of medication to keep that down.
Baby is down to 5lbs 2oz (at midnight last night), which is within the range of normal weight loss (she was 5lbs 9oz when born). My mom and dad and sister all seem to think that the lactation consultant knows her stuff and is very helpful...but I have to say it's kind of driving me batty to be so far away so I can't verify this myself. I've seen/heard of too many lc's and doctors who are actively detrimental to breastfeeding relationships to just relax about it.
I think my sister should be the one to tell you the story and her baby's name, and decide whether she's comfortable posting a picture. She's a teacher, so she's really really careful about internet privacy. But baby is gorgeous--red hair and all
I can't wait to get my hands on her....

p.s. I think it's hilarious that her baby weighed exactly half of what Maggie weighed when she was born. Apparently our family does not know the meaning of "moderation," we only do things by extremes (I know babies can be much tinier--thank goodnes she's not--5lbs9oz just seems so tiny to me)!

Wow, she does sound tiny! My son was born at just about 3kg (which google tells me is ~6.75lbs), and he seemed light (25% percentile in weight for boys). But small babies are still super cuddly!
I was 38 weeks when I went into labor, so I guess how early you give birth may have some influence on size?
Hope to hear an update soon!

That's all well and good as long as she HURRIES UP!!

As for red hair, we I would never have imagined... you get these ideas in your head - and that wasn't one of them!
FWIW Carlyle, I'm betting Tear can't wait for you to arrive either!

Please post your story and anything you feel comfortable sharing with us when you are up to it. You could always PM around some details if you don't want everything right out in the open.
Oh, and BTW, you had her on mine & DH's 4th anniversary!!!! (I guess that will help me remember when she was born! ha ha)

:
:Tear - Wow!! I just got a chance to stop by this thread and wanted to say CONGRATS!!!

Oh My gosh!!!! Tears of joy over here for Tear and baby girl!!!! Congratulations to mama, daddy, and proud Aunt Carlyle!!
Looking forward to popping in to read the birth story soon.
We're moving in 1 day - taking a break from packing right now. We settle on Thursday. I should go, since AV (my little ONE YEAR OLD as of yesterday!!!!) is having one of her new temper tantrums.... seems she's getting cranky in her old age. Oh, I guess I should pack too.
Love to all!!!

They're home!!! Hooray. Her dh was beginning to refer to hospital as "jail" and said they had to pass tests to leave (including leaving their baby in the car seat in the room all bundled up for an hour to see if her vitals were stable!) It sounds like it was a hectic time getting sign off from an entire army of doctors and nurses (who rotated through in random shifts and didn't remember things from one visit to the next), and they (the doctors and nurses) were worried about my niece's weight gain (which is doing fine now, despite resident doctors pushing formula at 4am) and temperature (1/10th of a degree too low two times and into the warmer with you!) My sister and her dh are awesome (in my not so humble opinion) and got the quick indoctrination into being hard core mommies and daddies by standing up to pushy and alarmist hospital staff (despite the fact that they'd just been through what sounds like an incredibly stressful and scary birth: last time I talked to him, her dh was standing guard over the door while my sister and baby slept). GO TEAR AND HUBBY! Her dh said it's SO NICE to be home and on their own rhythm. HOORAY!

Congrats Tear!!!! SOOO happy for you dear.
Carlyle - This is exactly why I was pining my hopes on being released early. I was thankfully let go 24 hours (exactly) after birth.
I had to watch this DVD and the moms were all like "OHH I NEVER wanted to leave the hospital" "I was like an all inclusive hotel" "I cried when they said I had to leave" It was not amusing after only having 2 hours of sleep the night before BECAUSE of the hospital. I got home the next night and slept a 4 hour stretch (thank you Asher) and then slept a few more 2 hour chunks. The amount of times they bother you is insane.

Lava - Fill us in on your u/s news if you mean its TODAY!
LZP - I hear you on the temper tantrums! Caleb has started a "new" little act where he plops himself on the floor on his butt and proceeds to lean over and gently bonk his forehead on the floor - only once or twice - but what a lil' stinker. Hopefully with some ignoring, he'll get over it!

Don't know that I ever mentioned it here, but at my last sono my placenta was covering the cervix. It is now up and out of the way! One less thing to worry about on my path to a midwife assisted VBAC.

ETA - I put in my two week notice at work last night. Nights just aren't working out for me and our family. I have an interview for a school nurse position tomorrow. I really hope I get it. The hours and holidays would be good for us, I think. It's not quite in line with my envisioned career path, but my family needs me right now. Career ladders can be climbed later.

Milk8Shake, how are you and your little munchkin doing?

lavatea, oh how fun to know the sex and see that everything is ok! I think it's very normal to have hopes one way or another, and I know that you will love your little boy just as much.
I'm so glad your placenta moved out of the way! How did your interview go? Good for you for putting your family first! You only get to have this time once.Lis, oh dear! I'm glad he's doing it lightly. Hopefully he'll find a new way to express himself soon. How are you holding out in this desert of a summer? It RAINED today!!!
rcr,
How are you doing hon? Always good to see you!
ps - ok now I REALLY don't have time to be a good threadmistress. Any takers?

Also, Maurine had her baby! Here's her thread with pictures.
