Baby choking on boogers...TOTALLY FREAKING ME OUT!

My 6 week old has been choking a few times a day on what I think is just some congestion. She doesn't have a fever but has had an acute cough (coughing maybe once a day). She will go from acting completely fine and then all of a sudden will be choking to the point where she can't breathe and her lips turn purple instantly. VERY SCARY! Especially as we approach the 1 year anniversary of my daughter's death. Not fun...*sigh*. Anyway, I am wondering what I can do. She even chokes when sitting up sleeping in her bouncy. I will be calling the Ped on Monday but until then I don't know what I can do. ??Baby Simply Saline?? or something like that?

For my 11 week old we've used a few drops of simply saline and then the nosefrieda with some success.  It works a lot better than the bulb.

We did saline for E for a bit during her last cold, but it didn't seem to be working. So we got a syringe and started putting breast milk in her nose, waiting just a bit, and using the bulb syringe to try to clear it out.  It seemed to help when we did it several times a day.

So sorry to hear the stress at such a hard time for you. *hugs*

I use breast milk. I put some in a dropper and then drop it into my DD's nose. She gets a lot of dried boogers in there. Sometimes we also turn on the shower and sit in the steamy bathroom to help loosen them up. When she was smaller we did that twice a day for about 20 minutes each time. It helped a lot. Also having the humidifier on helps. I've also used a q-tip and carefully removed boogers that weren't too far back in her nose. Sometimes a HUGE long strand of boogers comes out. Gross!

If the mucous you're seeing coming up is green, that's a sign of infection rather than allergies (where the mucous should be clear or very slightly yellow). Definitely call the ped Monday. smile.gif

Or else they suck them back in and you miss your chance to get the boogers!
