So sad thinking about the end of my marriage.

How long does it take to get over this sadness/grief?  My XDH and I are on good terms and handling things well, but I am just so sad thinking about what I had hoped for and what I feel I have lost.  (The divorce request came from him, but I understand both sides generally have to grieve.)

What did you do to work through your sadness?

My ex was so cruel to me that he was easy to get over, but I hear you on the pain that comes with losing your vision for your future and all sense of security within a relationship. I feel like letting go of the bad marriage I was in opens me up to good things in the future. My ex hated me with a passion by the time I filed for divorce. He had left me several months earlier, then requested to reconcile, then did ridiculous things. In the time we were apart then, I started seeing how much happier I was when he wasn't around and I was free in my own home.

The loss of a marriage is always sad, though. Make sure you take time to have fun with friends and enjoy your children. Start a new hobby, get a new hairstyle, whatever it takes for you to feel positive about the near future and to help yourself believe that life is going to be good, that you are a strong person and will get through this just fine.
