Prefold recommendatiosn? Also, any advantages to flats over prefolds?

Just starting to look into amassing prefolds, and need recommendations!

Also, why do some people prefer flats over prefolds?

I use diaper rite prefolds. They are wider and shorter than regular Indian prefolds, and very soft. I bought them at www.diaperjunction.com. I love these prefolds. They fit much better than the DSQ or premium Indian prefolds I've used. I really can't say enough good things about them.
Flats are cheaper and dry faster than prefolds. I have a few, but I never really used them regularly. They aren't as absorbent as prefolds, and folding is sort of a hassle. Some people really like them, however, so I guess it's just a matter of personal preference. HTH

I love my gmd prefolds. As what pp said, go fo diapers that are short and wide.

While yes you can fold down prefolds to fit, my dd has never outgrown a pre fold by length, only width

Great tips! I'm changing what I registered for, then. The Diaper Rite ones are pretty inexpensive, too!

I second either Diaper-rite or GMD, the shorter/wider sizing makes them much easier to snappi or tri-fold. I also like un-bleached. not quite as soft, but don't stain as easily.

I also had Diaper-Rite prefolds in the newborn, small, and medium size. I loved them, but my daughter grew SO fast! She had grown out of their medium size (green edge) diapers by about 4 months! (I could have gotten another month out of them if I'd pinned instead of snappi'd.) I loved them, but seriously, she outgrew them so fast that it just didn't feel like a good use of money to me. She's a pretty roly-poly baby ;)

I also got a dozen oso-cozy flats that I've been using since she was born. When she outgrew the prefolds I got another dozen imagine flats from Nicki's diapers. I LOVE the flats, especially those from Nicki's diapers! Sure, I have to fold them, and I have to add something extra for enough absorbency, but they will fit her from birth till she potty trains!!! If you don't mind the folding, and if you're diapering on a budget, I recommend this option!

When you all refer to the GMD prefolds, do you mean the ones sold under the Cloth-eez name? It looks like there are a few types that they stock.

I have Osocozy and I don't really like them.  They're really long and narrow.  Their 'premium' size washed was 19 inches long.  Its nuts.  I wish I would have bought GMD instead.

Flats can be folded in a huge variety of ways and dry in a flash. They have a niche and some people love them, but I would not buy a stash with out knowing.

Spend the tiny bit more and buy organic cotton prefolds. Apart from everything else good about organic, they are made from a higher quality cotton and are noticeably more absorbent.
