I hear Vitex is a God send next to Clomid, is that true? - Page 2

I took vitex to get pg twice and continued taking it for the first tri. At 12 weeks I would start decreasing my dosage by half, I'd do that for 1.5-2 weeks and then start skipping days for another week before stopping.

I've taken false unicorn before but didn't realize how helpful it can be in regards to low prog and pregnancy, thanks for posting!

I am definitely a fan of Vitex for conceiving especially if you have an LPD or PCOS.  I think the only open issue for me is whether or not to take it into the first trimester.....

Interesting about the false unicorn root! I'll check out the links later. Thanks!

I had a pretty big temp jump today! After not o ing last month and flatlined temps, this makes me happy. smile.gif

I think we've got a Vitex tribe going here now! smile.gif

With my first pregnancy, I used it for about three months (800mg/day) before I saw my luteal phases go from 7-10 days to 12 days, and then pregnant.  This time, I started using it a few months ago and got a BFP on the first try. I definitely think it worked for me.

I was taking it for 9 months before getting pg with DD2. Part of the length was because I also had to use it that time to induce AF back since DD1 was 2.5y old and it had never returned after her birth. For me, maca root and vitex is utter magic on my fertility. I still wasn't getting pg with just the vitex, my herbalist suggested maca and next month I was pg, had a very early m/c and got pg again the next month. For DS, AF returned when DD2 was 18m old, a month later I started taking my vitex and maca, not TTC yet, just prepping. I got pg on our first try 2 months later.

Thank you Peony on the info. If you dont mind me asking, what brands did you use? Sorry for all the info! :)

Sunshine4U, LOL hopefully I am the "perfect candidate" for it. :) I might add Maca Root too, depending on how I'm feeling.

Just got my Vitex in the mail yesterday and started taking it. It's Nature's Way, 400mg...the bottle says start with 2-3 capsules a day, then in 8 weeks go down to 1 capsule daily. What do you think? I'm on the small side (102lbs), so I don't know if I should just take two (800mg) then go down to 400mg after 8 weeks. Thoughts?

Chicajones, I hope you are too! lol. I am actually taking the same Vitex as you are. I have been taking for about 2 weeks now. I am about 125 pounds and take 3 of them a day. Since it doesn't say anything about weight, I would just go with what makes you more comfortable. If I were you, I would take 3 only because 2 of my friends took 4 pills a day and they got pregnant. Def. take more than one. Maybe try 3 and if you don't like the way it makes you feel then try 2. I would def take more than 1 though only because 2 of my friends have taken 4 a day and became pregnant. I haven't found any info on weight and how much you should take. Since I have taken 3, I feel better. Ovulation went back a few days already so I know it is working! :)

I think I also have the same kind as you.  I am right around 100 lbs too and took three and then dropped it with my first pregnancy.  I didn't have any negative side effects.   This time, I hadn't been taking it too long when I got pregnant but also started at 3.  Good luck!

Hi ladies, sadly as of this morning, I don't think I can take Vitex anymore. This morning and all through the day, I started spotting but it was brighter blood. Not totally bright but it wasn't implantation bleeding. TMI but it was barely anything. Just a little spot. It happened twice. I was caught off guard because I am not supposed to start my period for 2 more weeks. Has this happened to anymore else? I don't want to stop Vitex but if it is causing more hard than good. I see no point. I have been on Vitex for 2 weeks. Any thoughts?

I'm by no means an expert on Vitex, but have read that spotting between periods is a normal side effect.  Hopefully someone else has some more in depth info for you.

Good luck Sunshine!!

My temp dropped the day after spike and is flatlined. My guess is that I didn't ovulate again this month. I'm not even disappointed because I've been at this for awhile and I'm becoming jaded.

This is only month two on Femaprin and I've heard it takes a few months to kick in. Here's hoping!

Did you ovulate already?  How many DPO are you if you did?

So, um, just for reference...if you take a multi-vitamin and vitex in the mornings with your breakfast, make sure your breakfast is more than just a smoothie. Because yeah, I definitely had to pull over on the side of the freeway and throw up this morning. Not fun. I told my best friend and she texted, "Maybe you're preggo?!" Hah! I am pretty sure it was taking my vitamins with a smoothie (usually I have fruit and yogurt or eggs), but I guess you never know. I'll probably test tonight when I get home, just for the heck of it.

Lesson learned? When it says "Take with a meal" make sure it really is a MEAL! :)

well i just stumbled onto this thread - i have never heard of this but i am intrigued. I just suffered two mc 8 months apart. in those 8 months i only ovulated 3 times. My dr is hesistant to put me on anything bc he says i am ovulating just not as much as i would like to. I think a lot has to do with my age - i am 36 - can the vitex cause any harm if you are ovulating , just not regularly? I am off to investigate but please any info i would appreciate :)

Well, it looks like I am about to start vitex again!  I posted earlier and explained that taking vitext was the only way I was able to get pregnant with ds1 and ds2.  I was kind of hoping that after lots of healthy eating these past years my cycles would be better this time.  Not looking likely.  Just had only a 5 day luteal phase and then the spotting began, which turned into AF today at only 8 days past ovulation.

You know, I have heard that liquid vitext is better than capsules.  However, that being said, we concieved ds1 using capusules (femaprin) and ds2 using liquid vitex.  I'll probably use liquid again this time since I heard it works better.  Just to give others hope, we concieved both times my first cycle of taking vitex.

If we can concieve again I will probably take the vitex until 10 weeks and taper off again.  The unicorn root sounds good, but I guess I would just be nervous to switch the "routine" of what has worked in the past.  With each pregnancy I took vitex til 10 weeks and then lessened it before going off and we've got two great and healthy boys.

Concerning the above question, I think that vitex would be great for someone who ovulates some of the time.  I hope that after you are on it you will find you ovulate all the time :o)  I know that I actually didn't ovulate at all (started temping and realized this with my midwife) before taking vitex the first time to concieve.  I started ovulating right away.

Good luck everyone!  I think I will probably start taking it again within the next month or so.

ChicaJones, OMG lol. That stinks! Sorry that happened! That has never happened to me and I have taken it many times without food. Hopefully that doesn't happen to me!
