Postpartum remedies in DE

Thread Starter

Hi all,

I am 1 week postpartum in Northern Germany (2nd VBAC of 4025g Freya! :-) and the worst of it is a *terrible* case of hemorrhoids.  I am literally on my knees (on a pillow on the floor) because sitting is so uncomfortable.  In the U.S. I would use generous amounts of witch hazel, but it looks like that is not available here.  What can I use in its place?

Thanks,

Walosi

Congratulations on the birth of your baby girl!!!

There is a homeopathic witch hazel cream that you can get at pharmacies that sell homeopathic remedies. If I recall it is made by Weleda. Hope you get some relief.

Congrats on your new babe!

And, yeah, I just googled, too, because I used to have witch hazel some years back here, but I forgot what it was called. It's Hamamelis in German. Weleda apparently has two products to choose from - a cream and a suppository. The cream is just called Hamamelis comp. and the suppositories are just called Hämorrhoidalzäpfchen. I'd just go to the apothecary and ask for either one and be sure to mention the Weleda company name. You don't need a prescription for either product either, but they are "apothekenpflichtig" so you will only find them in the apothecary, not a regular drug store.

Hope you're back in the saddle soon, mama!
