Ideas for affordable Ladies' Day Out?

Thread Starter

Both of my younger brothers have recently become engaged.  One fiancee (M.) has been like a family member for years, now.  The other (R.) seems very sweet, but my parents, siblings and I have only met her twice.  Evidently, she and Bro.2 are just crazy about each other and knew from their 2nd date they wanted to marry each other, so they're tying the knot in just a few months!

I would like to host some sort of special thing for both fiancees, my sister, my mom and me to do together, soon.  Mainly, I'd like for all of us to get to know R. a little better and make her feel welcome, but I also want to celebrate M. and Bro.1 deciding to get married.  I have strong suspicions that my sister is also going to announce she's engaged, any day now.  So we may be celebrating that, too.

Basically, I'd like for us women to all do something nice together - more than just a movie.  But, my home (where we usually spend holidays and family birthdays) is in the middle of messy construction and is not a nice place to host anything right now.  My parents are having some financial difficulties, so I can't ask my mom to share the cost of going out somewhere.  If necessary, I can afford to take them all out to lunch or brunch, but I'd rather find something less-costly that would still seem special and still give us the chance to talk and have fun together.

Any ideas?

Does anywhere near you do high tea? That is always a cool, inexpensive, girly thing to do.

Do you have a garden/flower show coming up? My sister, SIL, and BFF's did this last year followed with a glass of wine afterward.  It was inexpensive and a lot of fun.  Plenty of time to chat as you walk thru the exhibits.

Maybe a museum?

Yeah museums often have free/reduced admission first Saturday of the month (or some other random day) and you could do that followed by coffee or something?

I like HollyBear's idea of a flower show, or anything else going on in your area (craft fair etc.) Check your local events calendars for something free/cheap...

Or could your mom (or sister or whoever) host and you provide lunch, coffee/tea, etc. so it wouldn't be a financial burden on her? I prefer being at someone's house when the goal is to get to know people better -- conversation just seems to flow more easily because there aren't any distractions...
