Cat Food/Litter & DD's food allergies

We are considering adopting a kitten but the more I look into it, the more I question whether it would negatively effect DS & DD's food allergies.

Between the two of them, corn & gluten (plus chicken, turkey, & more) are issues.  The biggest one I am concerned about is the corn.  I learned that chicken feed is a great alternative to the common cat litter, but of course it has corn.  My concern is that it would be on the cat and then get on DS.  I'm not sure about skin contact with him, but when he ingests a corn product he immediately reacts (skin and bowels).

We have a dog who has corn allergies (how ironic is that!) and she gets raw chicken every day, which means we have to be really careful about keeping it away from DD.

I'd be really interested to know what others do!

Have your kids been tested for animal allergies?  I wouldn't want to add anything that would potentially be allergenic to a kid who already has allergies.  I also agree with you on all the other issues you would have to deal with.

DD and DS seem to be fine with our dog.  She's been with us longer than DD. :)  With cats, they have both played with them and no problems.

We are talking about ways to keep the dust down with the litter, trying to work around it if possible b/c of the benefits of having another pet.  So we'll see. :)

Thanks!
