I have a 10 day old baby and tried mother's milk tea 2x so far. I don't have a supply issue or anything (didn't with first baby either) but just thought I'd give it a try. The baby was super fussy at the boob, upset and kept shaking his head at the boob and refused to close his mouth around the nipple for couple of hours. He would suck like 2x and then refuse again. I didn't think of it the first time, but happened after the second time I drank the tea, too, so I'm wondering if he can taste it in my milk and doesn't like it. I think both times it happend several (5-7) hours after I drank the tea. Other than these two instances he is nursing well. Has anyone experienced this?

Baby doesn't like mother's milk tea?
I had a similar issue- what happened was that any type of galactagogue (that's what the tea is- supposed to increase milk supply) would make me make too much FOREmilk. So when baby would nurse, he would get lots of the sweet watery stuff, but couldn't finish all that foremilk and would thus never get to the creamy HINDmilk. So the sugars in the foremilk would make him gassy and crampy, and then he would want to nurse, but arch his head back like you mentioned, and not latch on. He wouldn't eat normally for a few hours then. It was hard on him, and on me. What I had to do was feed baby on one breast only for two or three feedings till he was getting the creamy hindmilk, and by then the other breast would be full and triggering the signal to reduce supply somewhat, which would help to reduce how much foremilk I was producing.
So I really avoid all galactagogues now, and if baby needs more milk he just nurses more. He is so much happier this way, and never fussy. Hope that helps!
