Might have convinced DH to downsize

I go through phases of getting rid of stuff...we had a discussion this time and I brought up downsizing to a smaller house.  He said "I guess since we aren't winning the rat race maybe we should stop running it"  And he's willing to consider moving!!  I'm going to be getting rid of stuff here and hopefully he can see how we can fit in a smaller house.  It won't even have to be that much smaller.  Just by moving closer into town we can cut our mortage by 2/3

Now to get this house ready to sell...argghhh difficult with kids running around.

Anybody downsized recently?  We might even consider renting for while to save on insurance and property taxes.

We've gone from owning a 3BR to renting out a 2BR to renting out a 1BR (or...will be in two weeks' time).

We still own our home, we're just renting it out until we know for sure where we want to be, then we may buy again later.

I've found it quite liberating. Compared to paying our mortgage, our taxes, and utilities (nevermind home improvements) to what we will be paying for a 1BR with utilities included we've pared our living expenses down to nearly a third- we've got better things to do with our money!

Taxes and insurance will likely be rolled into the price of rent, but if it's less than what you're paying now there's certainly the potential for huge savings!
