DH to part-time home school, need suggestions

In the fall my DH is going to be a stay at home dad to our 4 year old DS and 3 month old DD. DS will be in preschool part time, but we are looking to supplement at home to make sure he is ready for kindergarten. We are completely new to this area and don't even know where to start. Any suggestions on curriculum, activities, etc?

I would look for local groups. There is usually a lot of material at the library. Lots of classes for 2-4yo's at parks and libraries.

You can find out what your district expects.Generally knowing the letters/sounds and starting to read. Very basic math skills often using counters and/or food items.

Keep it basic and keep it fun.You don't want your child too far ahead if you plan to enroll in PS otherwise he will be very bored and frustrated.

I would just have fun with her. Fact is, one of my children was quite ahead going in to kinder. Then kinder was awful because they taught at the level of the other children. So my son could read small chapter books, but had to go along with learning the alphabet and sounds of the letters along with the rest of the class. He practiced counting, even though he could add 3 digit numbers in his head, and was punished when he did not want to write yet another hundreds chart.

Is there something you think the preschool will not cover?

Read aloud a lot, and let him play on starfall.com.  Get your child interested in audiobooks.  Count out loud.
