Tell me about your experiences with Femara/Letrozole

I am 44 and my dh and I test normal for everything. We've been trying for #2 for over 2 years (#1 came easily) and have had some m/cs. I was just talking to my fertility specialist about what would make sense to try. The best contender was drugs to increase the number of eggs per month. Femara/Letrozole sounded like the best choice. Dh and I are nervous about messing with my hormones, though the potential end result is appealing. I'd love to hear people's experiences with Femara/Letrozole--hoping a bit more knowledge will bring some clarity.

Thanks!

WaturMama- I just tried femara this cycle - And I tried clomid the cycle before. I have yet to ovulate, so I don't know how that's going to go, but I can tell you that my emotional response to 5mg of femara was SO MUCH BETTER than 100mg of clomid! I wasn't half the emotional wrack I was on clomid. I wish I could tell you it got me pregnant, but I can't say that... I, too, conceived my daughter in no time, and have been trying for 20 cycles...

I tried Clomid for over a year, had 1 M/C while on it. Max dose was 200mg. I switched Dr.'s, and she had me try 7.5mg Femara to start with, and I got my BFP on my first cycle, and it's twins even joy.gif.

Good luck!!

Thanks so much for the replies. Good wishes on this cycle, Jenger! I'm glad to know the mood issues were so much less. That is one thing I was worried about with Clomid, because, my mood has an unfortunate tendency to go a-swinging.

So exciting about twins-on-the-way, Mama~Love!! Lots of good wishes!

I'm curious if folks are just using the Femara or doing the IUI and/or HCG shots or anything else with it.

we conceived our #2 with Femara --   and I did ovulate on Day 41-- so it was really late-- so I guess I would say hang in there..

Thank you! I was just using Femara. I took it CD 3-7, and I O'd on CD 19, but I'm always a late O'er.

Thanks WaturMama-

I am going *just* femara for 2 or 3 cycles, no IUI or HCG.  This is my first shot, and it looks like I will finally ovulate tomorrow! (wink!)
