Boogie Wipes and sore noses

I live in the UK but have just seen these online in America. It looks like they're just moist saline wipes.  My 12 month old has a very sore, red and bleedy nose from being wiped.  I thought I could make some warm salt water and put some cloth wipes in and use those.  But wouldn't it hurt her nose if it's already sore and raw?

I've found that my microfiber face cloths work the best for sore noses.  I just use plain warm water, and so far my guys haven't had a problem with redness.  Have you tried the saline?  How did it work?

I haven't tried it, but it's waiting on the counter! I'm afraid the salt will sting her raw nose!

I had been using wet cloths, cause it helps get the stuck boogies off, but someone told me the wet will make it worse and prevent it from healing. Is that not true?

I use Boogie Wipes for on the go, I keep them in my purse, and I love them.  They do help with raw noses, and they are great for wiping messy kids faces.

Do you think a cloth soaked in salt water would be the same thing?

We got some of the unscented boogie wipes because we thought they would be water and saline.. but no, they have preservatives and chemicals in them... so now we use them for the dog's feet!

We use a warm wet washcloth (no saline, just water) on E's nose. If she gets red and scratchy we pat dry, then put some lanolin on it. It seems to help but it has to be dry first!

The dog's feet!! Ha ha!!  Lanolin sounds like a great idea.  Today I kept smearing on some baby balm I made- beeswax, olive oil, coconut oil mixture, but I'll try lanolin too.

That sounds like a great balm! Lucky baby!

Here is my only concern-- sterile saline, like what is used medically or for contacts, is a sodium chloride solution, not a saltwater solution. Do you have access to saline? Maybe it would work better? It does not sting, I know that much.

I thought sodium chloride WAS salt...? My concern with DIY/cloth would be getting the proper concentration so that it wouldn't sting. I think I might try saline solution (the kind that comes in a squirt bottle) and damp a rag with that.

You're right, it is. I really should concentrate on only one thing at a time, as I clearly get tripped up multitasking sometimes. lol.gif What I meant to say more clearly was that saline is a specifically balanced formula that I know won't sting (I used to use saline to clean my body piercings), whereas salt water is, well, salt water. Like you said, the concentration would worry me.

You can easily make your own (non sterile) saline solution with the proper concentration. If you want it sterile, you need to buy deionized water. You need 9 grams of salt and 1 liter of water. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saline_(medicine)

Here's a how to:
