Need Popsicle Alternative

Thread Starter

We generally eat really well, including snacks. One area where I'm really bad in the summer, though, is that I buy pretty cheap popsicles that the kids can just grab out of the freezer. I really want to get out of that habit, but I'd like something I can make easily that has fruit in it. Maybe something I can put in ice cube trays so they're kid-sized?

smoothies freeze into popsicles nicely!  We make them with fruit and yogurt, or coconut milk.  You can also just freeze fruit juice, that is probably the cheapest and easiest.  I've seen pretty ones with layered fruit purees and yogurt.

You could get some small popsicle trays and just keep refilling them, I've never found ice cube pops to work too well.

My mom used to freeze banana halves on popsicle sticks for us.

Not popsicle-like, but frozen grapes are super refreshing in the summertime also.

I puree strawberries, grapes and sometimes other fruit then freeze that into a popsicle.

This.

My DD also loves frozen blueberries.

But really, I don't see the need for a lot of popsicle-like stuff. Ice is nice and fun too.

My children prefer frozen juice - cranberry, mixed berry, or a tart cherry blend is their favorite (I use popsicle molds).  But we also freeze pureed fruit smoothies and sometimes, but not often, chocolate pudding for fudge pops.

Another one for fruit popsicles.  We like to eat canned pineapple (in juice).  I reserve the juice to blend fruit together.  The favorite is a very ripe banana, strawberries and some pineapple juice.  If the blend tastes a little tart, I add a tablespoon of honey, but sometimes tart is good, too.  If it has the ripe banana in it, it's always plenty sweet on its own.  We also like raspberry, blackberry and a touch of heavy whipping cream when berries are in season.  It's a fun way to get whole fruit in the diet.
