An as yet unamed litttle chunker! She's my biggest baby and shortest labor. Birth story, pics, and hopefully a name soon!
It's a girl...named Penelope Scout! Birth story and pics added
I woke up on Tuesday at about 4:40 in the morning with contractions that were about 7 minutes apart. They only seemed about 30 seconds long, but I couldn’t lie in bed and be comfortable anymore. So I got up and sat on the rocker or the birth ball listening to my Ipod. My contractions were completely in my cervix (they stayed that way until 2nd stage and it totally sucked by the way) and they were getting stronger, but I thought it was still really early labor, so I didn’t want to wake anyone. My puttering woke up DH at about 6 and my mom about 7. DH couldn’t get back to sleep so he started setting up our room and the pool. My contractions were getting a little difficult to focus through, so I had my mom time some contractions. They were about a minute and a half long and 2-3 minutes apart. They were coming close together and required effort to breathe through, but I didn’t think that I could really be really far into active labor at this point. DH called my midwife at 7:30 and she decided to head right over.
I ate breakfast and the midwives got there sometime close to 8. Things had gotten pretty intense for me at this point (and my Ipod died, which was a personal tragedy for me!) and I really wanted to get into the birth pool, so there was this mad dash to fill it up with pots of boiled water from the stove (our water heater had been emptied out in the process of trying to fill it). I don’t know when I got in, but I do know that I got sweet relief during the next 2 contractions and then I had what seemed like one long intense contraction, until my body starting violently pushing all 8 lbs 9oz of Penelope out, who was born at 9:57 am. I’m told I pushed for about 30 minutes. I have seen my share of women give birth, and I know it works, but I have to say that I was convinced at the time that there was no way that I was going to be able to push out the baby that was desperately trying to come out of me. Needless to say, I was super happy that I was wrong (and also super happy when it was over)!
