He hates the potty!

I'm getting really frustrated with the diaper thing, in part because we're battling a steady rash, and have been for 6 mos now (he's 18 mos).  If he sits in a poopie diaper for even a few minutes (literally, just 2 or 3 minutes), his butt winds up raw and weeping.  But he will only sometimes give any clues he's pooping.  But I know he poops first thing in the morning, within minutes of waking up, so I try putting him on the potty - I have a Baby Bjorn (not the little one, the bigger one - we had to get rid of the little one, it was too short for him), and a ring on the toilet.  Doesn't matter which one I try, he starts arching his back and screaming the moment he realizes what I'm doing.  If I take his dipe off and I catch a stiffy, he will actually hold it until I get his dipe back on now.  And the pee is another matter entirely, since he out-soaks every diaper we own (to the point of it running down his legs and filling his shoes).  I just don't know what to do at this point. 

Anybody deal with this and have some brilliant ideas for me?  He'll happily sit on his potty while fully dressed, but the second that dipe comes off he won't have anything to do with it.

I don't know about the poop aspect, but for peeing have you tried sitting him on a folded up towel and cuing him? Ds (12 months) also does the arching back screaming thing often when I hold him over the toilet. NOt always- sometimes he is fine with it- but more so he refuses it- and we have been ecing since 6 days old! So lately when I know he has to pee, I give him diaper free time and sit him on a towel and cue him and then just wash the towel-

he also gets rashes so I try to give him more naked time to air out. He is actually lately more inclined to poop in the toilet than pee for some reason. I would say just keep trying sometimes, but also cue him over a towel or also just let him go in the diaper- sort of try a whole gamut. good luck!

My 16 month old will not sit on his potty except to poop - even then I have to lure him with books and toys.  Mostly he will only pee outside.  We live in the woods, so it's no big deal.  It's not my favorite, but at least it's not in his diaper or on the floor.  Must be a boy thing :)

At that age my son peed standing in the tub.  I don't know why but he preferred to pee down the drain.  He is 5 now an no he doesn't still do it. 

As far as poop I don't really know maybe once you get to pee standing he will be more relaxed and just sit and poop.  Good luck

my ds is one now and I had thought we would be potty trained by now. Boy was that a false idea! HE was better- way better- at ec when he was 7-8 months- but since he got old enough to be willful, he almost never goes on the potty- pee or poop- anymore! I don't even bother to pee him that much- I still try but he just arches his back- I try all different things- and today he was starting to poop and I bring him to the toilet, wher ehe i=used to poop and he stops! And earlier in the day i knew he had to poop and I bring him to the toilet- nope! I don't know what to do! Today he pooped standing up w- a diaper on so I wonder if there is a way to put a bowl under him when he is standing up and I know he has to poop.

The BBLP is prefect for my DD to poop on because of the squating position feet on the floor etc.  She is over 33 in tall.  You may wait to try it again.

we had a similar phase where my boy stopped being comfortable on the big toilet and could not find another place he liked to poop. We have had some success with this potty: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002UNM5BC

He loves the handle.  When he says he has to poop, I take his pants and underwear off and point out the 'handle potty' and he runs over to it and sits himself down.  If he is fully ready, he goes, but if we did it too early he gets off within a few seconds and we try again later. 

Its main downside is that it comes apart into 3 pieces (seat, basin, and base) and sometimes he pulls it all apart and we can't find something when we need it, or sometimes as he is seating himself, the seat will shift off which startles him.  The latter has decreased with experience however and I sometimes hold the seat down as he is getting on to be safe.  It is the only thing that has worked for him at all though, and I think that the autonomy of sitting on it himself plus the novely of the handle are what did it.
