Last Wednesday I had three of my teeth worked on (I did not know I was prego) and I know that it did not effect baby. The problem is when they worked on the back tooth they accidentally disrupted the nerve and I am still in horrifying pain. I went to the dentist today and he said the only thing he could do at this point (we still did not know I was preggo at this point) is put me on steroids to help with the inflammation and hopefully that would calm down the nerve. So then I came home and took a test just to confirm that I wasn't pregnant and it was a BFP (we have been trying for almost a year). So now I cannot take the steroid and my dentist is saying there is nothing they can do at this point. Please help I need natural remedies to help me get through until my second trimester. I am currently 4 weeks 6days!!

Yikes, toothe pain is the worse kind. I don't know if arnica would help, but I don't tolerate dental pain at all and would be asking for the narcotics (yes, even while pregnant)Pain causes stress hormones to run rampant, so its a risk vs benefits thing for each individual.. Good luck!

Thanks for the support. I have been up and down all night because of the pain. I think I am going to have to try to get the tooth pulled this week. I cannot take any more pain. Plus on top of that I am one of those who hates taking anything while pregnant. With my first pregnancy I took nothing other than all natural things while pregnant and it scares me to death to know that I am downing Tylenol like candy. I have been researching and researching trying to find an alternative to steroids and have only found one thing that may work but I lost the stupid website. Any input is helpful. Thanks.

Have you seen an endodontist? While it might be somewhat invasive to deal with the nerve (oral surgery), they should be able to fix it using only regional anesthesia. Was your doctors only solution to deal with the nerve using steroids? Is that expected to fix the pain permanently?

My personal experience:  I had a root canal done at my dentist's office. He said there was a crook at the end of the tooth that he couldn't get to (or something like that) and it was possible I would have to be referred eventually for treatement of this last little bit of nerve. Sure enough, I ended up needing to have the nerve totally removed via oral surgery at an endodontist. It was pretty gross surgery where they went after the nerve through the side of my gums, not through the tooth, but I was awake the whole time as they did the proceedure.Â

Thanks tourist. This doctor has done another root canal for me and he did very well. I really like him and he is very gentle he just does not work on pregnant women until they are in their second trimester.

Let me tell you my best friend (who is a naturalist) suggested I use the same kind of tooth paste she uses. She said it stopped a cavity from hurting when she was pregnant with her daughter and she still uses it today (4 years later). If you are having tooth pain you must try this stuff. As soon as I brushed my teeth with it I had immediate relief, of course it was only temporary but she says after a week of brushing with this stuff it should be gone. It was amazing you can get it at rowdystickhourse.com It is actually a company here in my home state. I am so excited. Plus I heard taking extra vitamin D and C will help with pain and swelling and the doc did give me an antibiotic just in case. Thanks for the help ladies I hope I get more sleep tonight.
