7 week old sleeping too much?

I don't mean to complain or be 'THAT ' woman but my 7 week old slept 9 hours straight lastnite, then another 2 hours this morning, then a half hour, and now has been sleeping for the last almost 2 hours. She had previously been taking 4-5 half hour naps during the day and then sleeping about 12 hours at night but getting up 2-3 times at night. She was congested the last couple of days but seems to be all better now, doesn't have a fever, is having normal diapers, eating fine, and seems perky and happy when she is awake. Did I just get that lucky or could there be something I am missing? And should I be waking her up to nurse at night if she sleeps longer than a certain amount of time?

I would say ride that train as far as it will take you, LOL! It will probably change.

E was like that when she was very small.  We worried about how often, how much she was eating, but as long as she was eating, we let her sleep! Enjoy!

ITA!! As long as her weight gain is good, I wouldn't panic. DD slept like that at 7 weeks... Oh, how I miss those days!

It sounds like you hit the jackpot, mama! Enjoy your sleeper!

Don't get too scared, but -

My baby was a VERY good sleeper from birth... and I thought he was a fairly good eater too... but turns out he barely grew from 6 - 12 weeks (1 lb, a teeny bit of length).  He was happy and alert when he was awake, and he did not look skinny because all his growth halted so he was proportionate.  I did not notice anything wrong until I saw the weight on that 3 month visit.  My friends and family all thought I did hit the jackpot, having such an easy, sweet kid.

I started supplementing with formula, and that was pretty much the end of breastfeeding (I BFed my first for 1 1/2 years so that was a shocking loss for me).  BUT, he gained and turned into a much more active baby.  Still a good sleeper but not as sleepy as before, and he will wake up hungry.

We're not sure what the heck happened - I got violently sick and dehydrated when he was about 7 weeks, so that might have mucked up my supply, and he was a lazy nurser from the get-go so perhaps it was a perfect storm of bad... who knows.

All that said - your baby has only had day or so of good sleep.  And that's not bad at all.  However - if she keeps going like that, watch her weight.  When they aren't getting enough to eat, they sleep more to conserve.  I knew that was a danger with a brand-newborn, but never thought about it with my older baby.
