Babysitter Telephone Interview Tips

My DH and I are going to a wedding in California at the end of April.  We are bringing DD with us because I don't want to be away from her over night, especially across the country (we live in Maine).  My DH is in the wedding so we have a rehearsal dinner and then the wedding the next evening.  So, we are planning on hiring a sitter to hang out with DD so that we can partake in the activities at night.  The lovely bride has provided me with a phone number of a potential baby sitter.  DD has only been babysat by family or close friends, and she is in daycare four days a week.  Does anyone have suggestions on interviewing someone over the phone?  DD is 2 years old and I want to make sure she and I are both very comfortable and she is safe.  Any insight would be great!!

i would ask for references.  for such a short time i wouldn't be too worried with questions, just want to make sure she isn't a serial killer and has watched kids of a similar age.
