(Mods, I wasn't sure if this belonged in Television or BFing so I X-posted)
Did anyone catch The Talk yesterday? They had a pretty lengthy discussion about extended BFing. The discussion started because they showed this BFing doll. Sara Gilbert made some great points about human milk/cow's milk, the benefits of extended BFing (and BFing in general), and said that she liked the doll and the fact that it promotes BFing as the normal first option instead of how baby dolls are typically packaged with bottles. She also talked about the sexualization of BFing and how if the milk came out of, say, our thumbs instead no one would have such a problem with it.
They also had a guest host, Amy Yasbeck (John Ritter's widow), and she mentioned that she nursed her kids for at least 3 years, and when the audience seemed shocked she said something like, "Oh, you'd really freak out if I told you the real number!"
Of course a couple of them thought the doll was creepy (it comes with a halter with flowers over the breast area, and when the baby is held up to a flower it makes a nursing sound), and Leah Remini said that she breastfed but only until they got teeth ( at what, 5 months old or so?), but in general it was a nice discussion and I liked that it went on for so long.
So, all that said, what do you think of the BFing doll?
