in need of french

Thread Starter

Looking for french resources / curriculum for a PRE reader. I need something fun and creative and not heavy on workbooks and such. I have a little bit of background so i can figure out how to pronounce things but that's about it.

any fun language programs out there?

If you go to the itunes store, go to language learning and from there, go to the french section.  There are several great "free" podcasts to choose from but our favorite is Coffee Break French.  Short little lessons so it's not overwhelming and super great hosts.

Sorry that I am coming late to this thread.  I "teach" French to preschool - I say "teach" only because at that age, it is more about exposure to the language that teaching lessons on vocab, grammar, etc.  If you want to spend $ on a cirriculum, I would recommend La Jolie Rond - published in the UK.  A little pricey but it worked well - I didn't care for the CDs much as the songs are often too fast for little ones to hear and understand.

I HIGHLY recommend Simple Songs that Teach French CD (and lyrics) and the optional lesson plans that accompany it (those aren't really necessary though) - I think they are about $10 each.  My preschoolers LOVE it - it gives all the basics (ABC, 1-20, days, months, colors, food, greetings, animals, etc.) - perfect speed, these are FUN songs.  In working on the "simple songs" I ususally use french posters (ABC, 1-20, etc.) to help connect the visual and the auditory part of the learning.  I really like learning through song at the pre-reader stage as it is FUN and it gets soaked up into their minds so quickly.
