Side Carred Crib or Futon next to bed?

I cannot decide where to put my DS to sleep.  DH and i have a queen sized bed - but we are plus sized parents and its not always easy having 7 month old DS with us.  When he was smaller he was in his co-sleeper - but he has outgrown that - so i moved our narrow  (36") futon next to my side of the bed.  We also have base board heating and the futon mattress is stuffed up against the heaters....DS went from sleeping 12 hours and waking once or twice to sleeping 10 hours and waking 4 - 5 times.  

im wondering if side carring a crib might be easier - our mattress /boxspring is on the floor - no frame - so i first have to find a crib that can go that low.  With my older children, they loved their cribs and i only had sleep problems with them when i moved them from crib to bed - so i liked the idea of having DS already in his 'bed' (he could sleep on the futon through childhood)  but it frankly feels a little disorganized.  Anyone BTDT?

We have a twin mattress perpendicular to our mattress, and have had it that way since DD was 6 months old. She still comes up to bed with us at about 4 am, but she sleeps soundly in her bed from about 9-4 every night. I think a futon mattress would work too, but it shouldnt be covering up your vents! I hope you arent getting too cold.
