Chocolate custard: dairy, coconut, soy free

Looking for a custard that is dairy, coconut and soy free. I have a vitamix. I've tried recipes with avocado and I don't like them. Taste mainly.

What about banana, cocoa powder, and a little maple syrup or other sweetner mixed in the Vitamix? Maybe just a little avocado for creaminess? I made a raw pudding with hidden avocado for my 5 year old--she ate it, but then said it tasted weird.orngbiggrin.gif

Can you have cashews?  I  like this one, 1 cup cashews, some maple syrup or raw dates to taste, a pinch of salt, some water to get it going, some vanilla.  yuM

Can you have eggs?

You should be able to make something like a mousse - melt chocolate, stir in egg yolks and let cool a few minutes.  Beat egg whites with sugar to taste, to medium-stiff peaks.  Fold into the chocolate mixture and chill.

Almond milk immediately jumped to mind for me, and google tells me that other people have done that successfully. Here's one recipe: http://www.marksdailyapple.com/dairy-free-custard/ (not chocolate, but I assume you could throw in some cocoa powder with no adverse effects)

As far as avocado-based goes, if you're willing to try it again... IMO, if you can taste the avocado, you haven't added enough chocolate :) Type of avocado also matters - some have a stronger flavor than others. I've found that adding some pureed apple really does something to round out the flavor.
