severe leg pain in dd following flu?

My dd (5) has been sick with the flu (not tested, just based on symptoms - high fever, bad cough) for a week.  Yesterday was her first temperature free day, but she woke up screaming in pain on the front of both of her thighs.  It is in the same place on both legs and after a half hour she stopped screaming but her legs still hurt to the touch and when she walks even today, 24 hours after the initial pain.  It seems muscular, but not really sure.  Does anyone have any ideas on this?  Could this be related to her sickness (which we all had to some extent, but she was far sicker than everyone else)?  She has had growing pains in the past but they never last more than an hour or two. I spoke with my doctor and he wasn't worried, but I am!

My son usually gets leg pains after he's had a fever. She might be dehydrated. I would give her something with electrolytes. I've never used it but i've heard coconut water works.

Thanks for your response.  It could be related to dehydration but she has been having a ton of pedialyte and fruit smoothies and mineral water for days, so I'm kind of doubtful that's the cause. I hope it's something like that.

Any other thoughts?

This is really a leap, maybe, but I figured I'd just throw my thought out there. I wondered about Deep Vein Thrombosis when I read that. If she's been bedridden with the flu, and perhaps potential dehydration may contribute, the possibility goes up. I really hope not. I did a quick google and it seems like it does actually happen sometimes. Not sure if the fact that it's both legs makes it a lot less likely (hope so).

that is worth considering too.  Seems improbable though that it hurts in the same place in both legs.  I am appreciative of any brainstorming though as the only thing her doctor can say is "that's strange."

just in case anyone comes across this on a search in the future...

Just got back from the doctor with a diagnosis of viral myalgia.  It fits with symptoms very well and it gets better on its own.  My daughter is beginning to walk normally again now after two days.

That's a relief, and it's really awesome to actually have a diagnosis. Thanks for coming back; indeed, someone might find this later and the info may be useful.
