Does this sound right, about birth certificates

Thread Starter

I called to find out what needs to be done in order to get a birth certificate when a couple has an UC.  The woman I spoke to said we would need to send in a letter after the birth stating, names dates, send in photo IDs and request that they send us the proper forms to apply for a new birth certificate, does this sound right?

It could be right. It helps to know what state you are from. Each state has different regulations. There used to be a thread stickied that had many of the states and info on what they had to do to get the birth certificate. I don't know why it isn't stickied anymore.

I don't know what state you are in but it sounds about right.  Did the person really seem to know or was she guessing?  You could always call again and ask to speak to a supervisor to be sure.  You could request the info in writing, they should be able to mail you a package or checklist if you ask them to.  The vital statistics people seem to call a UC an Unattended Birth, don't know if that will help when you talk to them.

That is generally how it is here. They won't mail the actual form until they have documentation that a new baby was born.
